| Does practicing a faith make us more human or murders? Does it give us peace or cause wars? |
It is needed to disassociate faith and intolerance? The first one really gives us peace and helps us to move on, showing hope and love. It is so powerful that it has the ability to take people away from committing crime, which for them, would be the wrong path. On the other hand, young people die believing that their beliefs are the right ones and good for their culture.
When believing in something, it is common to verify in our society the intolerance. Thus, Catholic people don’t like Protestants and together dislike pagans; this is in fact very much like the present war in the Middle East. Arabs and Jews have conflicting views on politics and religion causing millions of people to die and/or suffer just because they cannot agree with one another.
In a study conducted at FGV, Fundação Getúlio Vargas, which is one of Brazil's most comprehensive universities, results show that out of 100,000 people 7.53% identify as being non-religious. It seems that Brazilian society still encourages us to have some kind of faith. After all, research has also shown that religion leads individuals away from suicide and psychological illnesses. Why is that? Indeed, when we cling onto something, we tend to forget our problems.
The power that words have is a mystery for science. When you want something to happen you simply have to say it and it will happen. There are numerous amounts of people that believe in miracles, and, from that moment on, they start believing in “impossible” things. Therefore, faith restores our strength and makes us live well despite bringing with itself intolerance and death.

PS. Always remember that the philosophy is our friend. However, its importance you'll have to figure out by yourselves.
